Hundreds Gather for ‘Temporary Visitors License’ Workshop

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local NewsMore than 1,000 people attended a workshop hosted by State Representative Lisa Hernandez to help undocumented residents ready themselves to apply for temporary drivers licenses held on Saturday, Sept. 21st. Hernandez co-sponsored legislation, SB 957, introduced by State Representative Edward Acevedo, to provide “Temporary Visitors Drivers Licenses” (TVDL) to qualified individuals in Illinois who do not have U.S. Citizenship.

Early this year, the Illinois General Assembly approved the new law, which enables undocumented immigrants in Illinois to get temporary visitor driver’s licenses (TVDLs). Illinois is the fourth state to authorize undocumented immigrants to drive legally. The new program begins December 1st, 2013. The next workshop is scheduled for Saturday October 19 and will be held at the Town of Cicero Community Center, 2250 S. 49th Avenue in Cicero from 10 am through 2 pm. For more information, call Rep.
