Getting City College Students Covered

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - EducationIn the Chicago area, 31 percent of young adults continue to go without insurance, risking both their health and financial stability. But with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Illinois health insurance marketplace open for business, uninsured young people are now able to shop online for affordable care; many will even qualify for generous government subsidies. Though some young people still have questions about how they will benefit from the new health insurance options, local volunteers are ready to help. In coordination with national and statewide organizing campaigns, on Saturday Nov. 2, local activists spent the day at Daley and Wright Colleges to connect with students about what the ACA is its benefits and the importance of protecting the first comprehensive health care bill for Americans, during their event Get Covered America, with partners Know Your Care and Enroll Chicago.
