The National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA) in Pilsen will host a reception this Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m. for three outstanding artistic collections, including Galeria Sin Fronteras, Cosmopolitans & Strangers: Mexican Art of the Jewish Diaspora and the work of Pilar Acevedo.

Galeria Sin Fronteras is Chicano based artwork from the collection of professor and founder of Galeria Sin Fronteras Gilberto Cardenas. The artwork draws inspiration from the ideals of Sister Karen Boccalero (1933-1997), who was deemed instrumental in the social conscious mission of Self-Help Graphics in East Los Angeles.

Cosmopolitans & Strangers: Mexican Art of the Jewish Diaspora preserves the struggles of integration of Jewish communities in Mexico and challenges notions of identity, immigration and citizenship.

The works of Pilar Acevedo crafts a deep visual narrative woven from the fabric of childhood memories and provokes simultaneously the sinister and the angelic. These memories manifest in the form of paintings and assemblages.
