Poet, Author, Activist Sonia Sanchez Headlines Poetry Fest

In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Chicago Public Library presents the 15th Annual Poetry Fest, a free day-long festival of poetry readings, workshops, performances and discussions under one roof. The free event takes place on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St. Poet Sonia Sanchez will serve as the keynote speaker at the fest.

This year the Library welcomes poet, author, activist and scholar Sonia Sanchez, as keynote speaker for Poetry Fest. Sanchez is one of the most important writers of the Black Arts Movement, and distinguished for her advocacy on behalf of peace, justice and women’s rights. She is the recipient of both the Robert Frost Medal and the Langston Hughes Award, among many other literary laurels. Co-sponsored by The Poetry Foundation.
