Youth Crossroads, Inc. (YC) celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with a fundraising event at 6:30 pm on Friday, April 11, at Skylight West Banquets in Berwyn. The event, “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”, will feature a 1970s themed night with open bar, dinner, silent and live auctions and other activities.

In 1971, the idea for the agency emerged out of a small town project taken on by local community members who were concerned about the growing need for crisis counseling and intervention for homeless youth and youth with drug abuse problems. With initial funding from the State of Illinois, the “Youth in Crisis” project was launched out of a small office at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn. By 1974, project leaders incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization known as West Suburban Youth Outreach, Inc. In 1975, the organization changed its legal name to Youth in Crisis, Inc.

The stated mission of YC is to act in the best interest of youth, guiding them through life’s challenges, and inspiring them to discover new opportunities for personal development, healthy relationships, and positive community involvement.
