Cicero Celebrates Reduction in Gang-Violence

Corazón Community Services, in collaboration with other community partners kicked off Cease Fire Week 2014 in Cicero on June 23rd. Cicero is celebrating continuous reductions in gang-related shootings and homicides. This is the 8th annual Cease Fire Week in Cicero and marks the largest and most expansive collaboration and list of free activities:

Thursday: Basketball Instruction and Tournament, Family Fun Festival, Community Vigil for Violence

Friday: Family Health Fair and Peace March

Through the years, the community has seen significant changes that have had a positive impact to our youth and families. We, as a community, have seen reductions in Gang-Related Shootings/Homicides, Teen Pregnancies and have provided positive outlets for all youth and families. Since 2003, Corazón has brought effective, life-improving programs to the Cicero community promoting Health, Safety & Violence Prevention, Education & Leadership, and Fuerza (Daily drop-in center/program). Today, the nonprofit directly serves 600 individuals a month and impacts over 2,000 community members via community education and events monthly. With programs like Cease Fire, HIV/AIDS testing, and Stay in School Initiative, Corazon is at the forefront for “serving the heart of the community.”
