The Art & Design Department of South Suburban College (SSC) is pleased to present two exhibitions currently on display with closing receptions for the artists on October 16, 2014. First, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, a solo exhibition titled “The Land Where It Doesn’t Snow” by Chicago Heights-based visual artist Luis Sahagun is now on display. Born, in Guadalajara, Mexico, Sahagun creates sculptures out of repurposed cardboard, concrete, metal, and wood. These materials are part of his childhood vernacular and at times are used as a metaphor for finding beauty in the discarded.

See Sahagun’s exhibition through the closing reception at 1:00 p.m. on October 16th–the Thiel Gallery is on the 4th floor in the Art & Design hallway. The public is welcome to visit art exhibitions and receptions at no charge. SSC Galleries are open at minimum Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The galleries are closed on weekends and holidays. For more information, please call (708) 596-2000, ext. 2445 or visit www.ssc.edu/art. SSC is located at 15800 South State Street, South Holland, Illinois.
