NHS Honors Nine Individuals as “Neighborhood Heroes”

Nine individuals were honored by Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago (NHS) as their 2014 Neighborhood Heroes. The honorees came from the nine different target communities that NHS serves. The nine heroes were selected on the basis of having made a positive impact in their community through both their professional and charitable work. The nine Neighborhood Heroes honored were: Ms. Sonya Harper of Englewood, Mr. Chet Jackson of West Humboldt Park, the youth organizers of the Southwest Organizing Project of Chicago Lawn, Mr. Paul Norrington of North Lawndale, The Chicago Southland Housing & Community Development Collaborative, Ms. Diana Rubio of Back of the Yards, Mr. Dennis Verges of the Fox Valley, Ms. Cheryl Johnson of Auburn Gresham, and Jackie Robinson West Little League of Roseland. The award ceremony was held at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago. The evening was sponsored in part by generous contributions from State Farm and The PrivateBank.
