Quinn, After School Matters, Botanic Garden Collaborate on Teen Urban Garden Program

Governor Pat Quinn, After School Matters, and the Chicago Botanic Gardens’ Windy City Harvest Youth Farm program are celebrating the accomplishments of Chicago teens in the After School Matters Urban Garden Lab program. This summer, teens’ conceptualized and cultivated local agriculture displays in the planters outside the James R. Thompson Center and they will soon replant the containers for fall. The Urban Garden Lab, a partnership program between After School Matters and the Gardens’ Windy City Harvest Youth Farm, provides inner-city teens with hands-on experience working with plants – teaching teens about urban agriculture, healthy nutrition and environmental sustainability through project-based activities as well as field trips to farms and gardens around Chicago.
