Quinn Proclaims October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Illinois

Governor Pat Quinn proclaimed October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in the state of Illinois. The month is designed to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence and available resources for those in need.

Throughout the month of October, several events will be held around the state in observance of “Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” including 5K walk/runs, candlelight vigils and marches. A complete listing of events can be found on the IDHS website at www.dhs.state.il.us. IDHS supports nearly 70 multi-service domestic violence programs across the state, offering counseling and advocacy, legal assistance, children’s services, and shelter and support services at no cost to the victim.
