April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month; How will You Help?

The public is invited to join the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Prevent Child Abuse Illinois, elected officials, Pro Se Services, Prevent Child Abuse Illinois and more for a month long observance and call to action during National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.

Illinois DCFS will hold three public events to mark the occasion. All events are open to the public and elected officials are scheduled to attend. More details to follow. In addition, Illinois DCFS will host an art exhibit titled “Art From Youth in Care and From Others Who Care.”

What: Child Abuse Prevention Month Press Conference

Time: Noon

Where: James. R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph Street in Chicago on the Atrium Level

Illinois DCFS staff, elected officials and partner agencies will hand out blue bows to the public and the Westinghouse Navy JROTC will post the Colors and a children’s choir will perform.

Date: Wednesday, April 1, 2015

What: Child Abuse Prevention Month Press Conference

Time: 10:00 a.m.

Where: Illinois State Capitol, 401 S Spring Street in Springfield, IL on the first floor.

Illinois DCFS staff, elected officials and partner agencies will pass out bookmarks tied with blue ribbons. The blue ribbon is one of the symbols of National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Date: Wednesday, April 1, 2015

What: Illinois DCFS, Chicago Loop Alliance and Pro Se Services to launch the first ever, month long, Blue Ribbon Campaign on State Street in Chicago.

Time: Noon to 2:00 p.m.

Where: Gateway on State Street (intersection of Lake & State Streets). Here officials will tie blue ribbon on the trees in the Gateway, and on the trunks of trees located on State Street from Wacker Drive to Congress Parkway. Officials and volunteers will distribute information cards and blue ribbons to the public. In addition, volunteers will plant signs with messages on how to strengthen families and preventing child abuse.
