CICS Northtown Academy won the 3rd Annual Magnetar Academy Team Challenge, a financial literacy and portfolio management competition held on March 7th at Soldier Field. The competition brought together more than 300 Chicago high school students competing on 33 school teams to win up to $5,000 for their high school. There were two components to this year’s competition: first, students built and managed a $100,000 mock stock portfolio over three economic cycles, and second, they had the opportunity to add up to $10,000 per round to their portfolio based on how team members performed in a financial literacy quiz. American Ninja Warrior co-host and former NFL player Akbar Gbaja-Biamila joined the students at the Challenge and spoke with participants about the importance of what they are learning.
