On May 28, caregivers from Holy Cross Hospital provided a Career Day for students at Morrill Math and Science School in Marquette Park. To groups of fourth, fifth and sixth graders, the Southwest Side hospital’s physicians, nurses, laboratory, telecommunications, community outreach and administrative caregivers discussed career paths in healthcare and the education options involved for various paths. “I was delighted to have an opportunity to interact with children in the community that we serve,” said Lori Pacura, RN, President of Holy Cross Hospital. “It’s critical for each of us to discuss and role model the importance of education and continuous learning with school-aged children.”

To plan the career day, Mike Beyer, Principal at Morrill Math and Science School, and Dennis Ryan, Vice President of Mission Effectiveness and External Affairs at Holy Cross Hospital, worked together and arranged speakers to represent various healthcare sectors. “We thought that this could be an interesting and fun way for students to get real life exposure to career options,” Ryan said. “It also offered Holy Cross Hospital caregivers the opportunity to relate more closely with the community we serve and to share face-to-face experience about career paths.”
