Mexican Singer-Songwriter Kicks Off Pride Week at Joe’s

Openly gay singer-songwriter Edna Vázquez will give Chicago’s pride celebrations a Latin American flavor with an intimate solo performance at Joe’s on Weed, 940 W. Weed St., Sunday, June 14th. Produced by Sylvia Hevia, the concert will start at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Ticket prices are $25 and can be purchased online at SylviaHevia.com or at the door the day of the event. Vázquez’s repertoire includes a wide variety of genres, from Mexican folk to nueva trova, rock en español and tango. Besides performing alongside Oregon’s Mariachi Los Palmeros for more than a decade, Edna performs with her own group, the Edna Vázquez Quintet, and with the rock band No Passengers and has shared bills with Lila Downs, Gloria Trevi and Molotov, among other artists. Her latest release, Ser Abstracto, includes 11 tracks arranged in a variety of styles.
