The Slippery Slope

It is a symbol of repression. It stands for slavery, inequality, rebellion and revolution, lack of freedom and genocide. This flag has seen the deaths of tens of millions of innocent people and the lives of hundreds of millions of others ruined. In this case, I am talking about the Communist flag, the symbol of the yellow hammer and sickle on a blood red background. First adopted by the Communists in 1918, it has in one way or another become the standard for dozens of Communist flags throughout the world and over time. No other flag and symbol has caused so much pain and suffering as those who had and are still living under the Communist banner. Yet it is amazing how many people will fly this flag in the United States and in other parts of the world because they see it as a symbol of “purity” or “righteous struggle.”

I guess it depends on what one considers right and what one considers wrong. In my own personal case, I can think of no other flag or symbol so full of evil and dread. It is this flag that I have seen with my own eyes cause brutality and evil the likes of which will remain with me always. All that said, as much as I do not want to say the next thing, I must say it. As much as I hate and loath this flag, I do NOT want it banned or made illegal. Why? It is important to remember that the U.S. Constitution protects freedom of speech. The flag, as unpopular as it is for hundreds of millions of people who have lived under it, is still a form of freedom of expression for the minority who believe in Communism. If we start to ban the Communist flag(s) and all Communist symbols, it is a slippery slope to censorship and repression that will prove as deadly to America as Communism itself.

There will be those who will question my “patriotism.” Let them question it. What too many people who call themselves super-patriots seem to forget is that suppressing something only makes it more desirable—the very opposite of what was intended. Despite efforts by liberal and far left organizations to attempt to suppress the Confederate flag, more people than ever want a Confederate flag now. Even though Amazon, E-bay, Walmart, Sears and even the major flag maker Annin will no longer sell the Confederate flag, those who still do have seen sales shoot through the roof. So suppression just simply does not work in this country. Neither will trying to ban or suppress the Communist flag………….just as soon as someone thinks of trying to do so.
