World Business Chicago’s 1000 Jobs for Chicagoland Manufacturing campaign and the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII), a UI LABS collaboration, hosted more than 70 Chicago Public School students from Bowen High School and Prosser Career Academy for a day of advanced manufacturing career activities to celebrate Manufacturing Day 2015. Manufacturing Day is a national event where manufacturers and industry groups open their doors to local high school students, with a goal of giving students a first-hand look at the potential that manufacturing careers hold. With more than 20,000 open positions in advanced manufacturing in the Chicagoland area, 1000 Jobs and DMDII are working to educate high school students on the career and training options available in advanced manufacturing. “The City of Chicago has a great history and a promising future when it comes to manufacturing,” said Jeff Malehorn. “1000 Jobs, CPS and its partners play a vital role in educating students on the opportunities of well-paying and fulfilling careers in manufacturing. Advanced manufacturing is a critical piece to our continued economic success, and I am glad to see DMDII opening its doors to engage with Chicago’s students.” For those interested students and job seekers that did not attend the event, visit www.1000jobscampaign.com to get connected to a 1000 Jobs representative.
