Saint Anthony Hospital Foundation is the proud recipient of a $35,000 grant from The Chicago Community Trust. This gift will support Saint Anthony Hospital’s Wellness that Works program. Wellness that Works increases nutrition knowledge and physical activity among adults in North Lawndale who are overweight or obese and at-risk for chronic disease. The program helps individuals and their families eat healthier and become more active. Wellness that Works consists of 12, two-hour classes over the course of six weeks that includes lectures, discussions, demonstrations, question-and-answer sessions, physical activities and health screenings. The classes are held at local organizations that members of the community are familiar with and visit on a regular basis like Family Focus and the Lawndale Christian Fitness Center. In the next year, Wellness that Works will reach a total of 80 adults and increase their health-related knowledge, improve their good diet habits as measured by pre- and post-surveys and increase their physical activity levels. With support from organizations like The Chicago Community Trust, Saint Anthony Hospital is able to provide services that our communities so desperately need.
