Chicago Cares is seeking volunteers to give back to this great city on June 25, 2016 to spruce up dozens of public places and empower residents throughout Chicago. This annual event marks the city’s largest day of service, when more than 5,000 volunteers collectively donate 20,000 hours to make our schools and parks cleaner, safer and more beautiful for the children and families they serve. For the past 25 years, Chicago Cares has been making an impact on communities in need thanks to the generous support of volunteers and corporate sponsors, including 23 years of its annual Serve-a-thon. PepsiCo Chicago and Sidley Austin are serving as the main sponsors for this year’s Serve-a-thon.

Volunteers will work together to improve the quality of our public schools and parks, which are continuously used and appreciated, but if neglected their output will be diminished. Having beautifully maintained parks and schools have a positive impact on communities and students in the classroom. Chicago Cares supports more than 300 schools, parks and nonprofits through programs like Serve-a-thon and our ongoing monthly volunteer programs. Volunteers help with everything from writing resumes to cooking meals for seniors to tutoring kids to maintaining the city’s green spaces. Serve-a-thon activities will culminate with a volunteer appreciation bash at Daley Plaza that afternoon, which will include music, refreshments and other activities. Volunteers can sign up as an individual or even build a team of friends to work together as part of the Serve-a-thon.
