For the eighth year in a row, City Year Chicago partnered with the Chicago White Sox to celebrate White Sox Day of Service on Saturday, May 7th at Sidney Sawyer Elementary School in the Gage Park community. Over 200 members of the White Sox Volunteer Corps and community volunteers joined City Year AmeriCorps to beautify the school with murals, painting and light construction projects both indoors and outdoors in an effort to create a space conducive for learning. White Sox infielder Carlos Sanchez, White Sox catcher Dioner Navarro, Ambassador and six-time All-Star slugger Harold Baines, and White Sox mascot Southpaw were all on hand to help volunteers make a difference.
