On Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at approximately 8:00pm, Berwyn Police units responded to several calls of gun shots fired in the area of the 3800 block of Harlem Avenue. Responding officers located five victims who were shot at while inside of their vehicle. Officers located and recovered five shell casings. Although no one was shot or injured, they were shot at while sitting in their vehicle. Officers received the following description of the offenders. The offending vehicle driven was a silver Mercury Mountaineer. The driver was a female in her early twenties. The shooter was a passenger described as a male white/Hispanic in his early twenties. The offenders fled the scene in the described vehicle in an unknown direction.

Investigators located a vehicle matching the description of the offending vehicle parked in the 3500 block of Harlem Avenue. Surveillance was established on the suspected offending vehicle and on Friday, February 24, 2017, at approximately 1:00pm within 48 hours of the original incident, two suspects were stopped and detained. During the interviews, both suspects placed themselves in the area at the time of the shooting; however, they then requested an attorney. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, and upon executing the search warrant, a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun was located and recovered from a compartment inside of the suspects’ vehicle. Both suspects were subsequently identified by the victims as being the offenders who shot at them. Investigators contacted the Assistant State’s Attorney’s Office, and after a complete review of the facts, the State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges against both offenders. Both offenders were charged with five counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm each and are expected to be indicted on additional charges of Attempted First Degree Murder at a later date.

Shooter: Alejandro Cossyleon, 23 years of age from 3533 S. Harlem Ave, Berwyn
