Driver in fatal crash charged with aggravated driving DUI causing death

On Saturday, March 25, 2017 around 9:35 p.m., Cicero Police and Fire Department responded to a traffic crash with injuries at the intersection of Roosevelt and Laramie Avenue. Upon arrival, police discovered that a black SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Laramie Avenue, which then crossed through intersection and collided another vehicle, occupied by a family of five. The SUV then crashed into and came to rest at the corner gas station. The driver of SUV, identified as Arthur Woods of Chicago IL, was suspected of being under the influence on scene. Passerby’s came to the aid of the trapped family struck by the SUV and assisted with extracting them from their vehicle. One of the family members was identified as five year old Cesar Martinez, whom was taken to Loyola Hospital. Martinez was pronounced dead the following day from his injuries. Cicero Police continued their investigation and learned alcohol was a contributing factor. Woods was later charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing death. Woods appeared in bond court at Maywood, Tuesday March 28th 2017 at the Maywood Court House.
