Seven local high school students received honors for using their talents in creative writing, visual arts and multimedia to voice their perspectives on challenges teens face as part of the 2017 Walgreens Expressions Challenge. The Expressions awards ceremony, which celebrated the teens and their art, took place January 11 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Avenue.    The Expressions Challenge is a creative contest for high school students in the Chicago and St. Louis area sponsored by Walgreens.  From October 1 through November 30, more than 2,000 teens submitted entries in the form of creative writing, visual arts or multimedia expressing their perspective on topics that affect their peer group while attempting to help other teens make healthy decisions for their future.  Along with Woods, the other Chicago finalists are Tyriek Hampton from Innovations High School, Ana Mancera from Mather High School, Garrett Miller from Kenwood Academy, Alexis Johnson from Bolingbrook High School, and Kirsten Ceralde from Senn High School.   During the awards ceremony, the first place finalists took home a prize of $2,000, and the second-place finalists received $1,250.  In addition, Walgreens also showcased artwork by more than 50 Chicagoland high school students during the occasion.
