The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is celebrating World Car Free Day by encouraging all those who typically drive personal vehicles to use public transportation on Saturday, September 22. World Car Free Day is organized in cities across the globe with the common goal of reducing the number of cars on the streets.  The RTA along with Metra, CTA and Pace Suburban Bus, encourage riders who regularly take transit and those who do not ride public transportation on that day. The RTA wants to hear from transit riders who are Car Free about how and why the decision works for them. Some of those who respond may be featured on the RTA’s Ride On. Blog and social media channels.  Tell the RTA how you benefit by leaving the car at home and taking transit with the hashtag #CarFreeDay2018. The transit system in the RTA region covers approximately 3,700 square miles and provides more than two million rides each weekday in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties.
