Hilario Dominguez, candidate for 25th Ward alderman, shared the following statement regarding Alex Acevedo’s decision to accept $2,950 from a political action committee tied to indicted alderman Ed Burke. “Alex Acevedo’s decision to solicit money from those connected to Ed Burke, who was recently indicted for attempted extortion, represents everything that is wrong with Chicago politics,” said Hilario Dominguez, candidate for alderman of the 25th Ward. “The Acevedo family has received tens of thousands of dollars from this political action committee in the past, and it appears that Alex will continue the family tradition of relying on people like Ed Burke to fund his political ambitions.” In previous elections, Alderman Burke used this PAC to funnel $45,000 to former Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios’ unsuccessful reelection effort. Acevedo reported the $2,950 donation on December 31st, more than a month after the first FBI raid of Ald. Burke’s office. “I’m calling on Alex to donate the $2,950 to the nonprofit Mujeres Latinas en Accion, and make a pledge to the voters of the 25th Ward that he will stop funding his campaign using money connected to people under federal indictment,” said Hilario Dominguez.
