This week, Think Big Illinois released a new poll showing that Governor Pritzker’s fair tax plan has broad support from Illinoisans across the state. When voters hear a basic explanation of the plan, 64 percent support it, with just 27 percent opposing. Support for a fair tax spans across the state – 67 percent in the city of Chicago, 66 percent in suburban Cook County, 66 percent in the Collar counties, and 60 percent Downstate. The individual elements of Governor Pritzker’s plan all garner more than 70 percent support, including that the plan would help the state fund schools, that 97 percent of taxpayers would have their taxes remain the same or reduced, and that it would provide $3.4 billion to fix the state budget crisis. Additionally, when voters heard both positive and negative arguments on the fair tax plan, including many of the attacks levied by opponents of the plan in recent weeks, support for the plan does not waver. This shows that despite the opposition’s best efforts to spread misinformation and launch false attacks, Illinoisans want a tax system that works for them and their families.
