Business, Health Leaders Defend Immigrant Communities

Prominent Chicago business and health leaders and Illinois Business Immigration Coalition (IBIC) board members held a press conference to discuss the city’s commitment to protect and support immigrant communities frightened by the prospect of increased immigration enforcement on Wednesday, July 10th at Lurie Children’s, 225 E. Chicago Ave., and reinforce to immigrant and refugee families that Chicago stands by its immigrant communities. Mayor Lightfoot has vowed to support Chicago immigrant communities, including issuing a directive to the Chicago Police Department (CPD) terminating ICE’s access to Chicago Police databases and instructing CPD that they cannot facilitate any ICE raids. The press conference was attended by Mayor Lori Lightfoot and several community leaders including, members of  The Resurrection Project, the Center for Childhood Resilience at Lurie Children’s and the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition including Carole Segal, Co-Founder of Crate & Barrel and Co-Chair of IBIC; Sam Toia, President and CEO, Illinois Restaurant Association; Michael Jacobson, President and CEO, Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association;  Jaime Di Paulo, Executive Director, Little Village Chamber of Commerce; Todd Maisch, President, Illinois Chamber of Commerce;  Zaher Saloul, President and Founder, Med Global; Scott Grams, Executive Director, Illinois Landscape and Contractors Association; Terry Howerton, President and CEO, TechNexus; and Esther Corpuz, President and CEO, Alivio Medical Center.
