The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) will distribute free and interactive educator’s activity guides in the Lieutenant Governor’s Tent at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield Aug. 9-18. The exhibit runs daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the duration of the fair. The guide, titled “Illinois Fairs & Festivals Educator’s Guide: Learn Here, Work Here, Play Here,” connects common activities at fairs and festivals, such as rides and lemon shake-ups, with what students need to know to pursue careers in agriculture, food, fine arts, science, and engineering. The activities align to the Illinois Learning Standards and promote essential employability skills, such as adaptability and problem-solving. ISBE also will distribute to fairgoers who visit its exhibit a new Career Guide for students. Students can use the checklist in the guide to connect their interests and strengths to career paths that are in demand in Illinois. Find more information about ISBE’s exhibit at the Illinois State Fair and download available resources, including posters and a bookmark, at www.isbe.net/statefair.
