The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago has made the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily close all of its facilities to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The short-term shutdown includes the association’s 17 membership and program centers, five overnight camps, and dozens of early childhood extension sites located in the city and across the suburbs. The closure will take effect this week with a tentative reopen date of Monday, March 30. The Y will continue to assess the risks associated with this evolving national emergency and be guided by the advice provided by public health authorities. In the meantime, YMCA staff are developing innovative ways to keep the Y available to its members and program participants during the temporary closure. The association is working diligently and swiftly to prepare a collection of online resources to assist parents in keeping their children learning, and families active. In the coming days, the Y will have fitness, wellness, and educational programming available on its website and YouTube channel to keep members engaged.
