Chicago Public Library (CPL) has announced that the Library system will reopen beginning this week. New social distancing and safety guidelines will be in place for locations citywide as part of Chicago’s move into Phase Three of the City’s reopening plan. CPL will be implementing safety procedures consistent with guidelines given by the Centers for Disease Control, the American Library Association, and the Chicago and Illinois Departments of Public Health. Library locations will have restricted capacity based on the facility’s square footage, guided paths through aisles, and spacing of computers and furniture to ensure social distancing. Staff and patrons will be required to wear masks while in the building, and time limits will be implemented for computer use to ensure all patrons have equal access to needed resources.  Over the summer, CPL plans to continue its award-winning Summer Learning Challenge for kids and teens with virtual and take-home programming. CPL will also continue to host programming online for patrons of all ages, including book clubs. For a list of open branches and for up-to-date hours and information, visit chipublib.org.
