In honor of Disability Awareness Month, Chicago Public Library’s Diversability Committee is offering an array of online programs for kids, teens, and adults celebrating the culture, history, and achievements of people with disabilities. Dozens of free book discussions, arts and crafts tutorials, story times, and author events will take place throughout the month of July. Book recommendation lists for Chicagoans of all ages are also available. For all information on the month’s programming, visit chipublib.org/DisabilityAwareness. This year’s keynote program features a conversation with Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth, the first woman with a disability to be elected to Congress. Presented in conjunction with Disability Lead, the Disabilities Fund at The Chicago Community Trust, and Chicago Public Library’s Women’s History Month and Asian American Pacific Islander Committees, Senator Duckworth will reflect on her journey and how the Americans with Disabilities Act paved the way for her to become the highest-ranking elected official with a visible disability. Registration is open now for the event, which will be presented on Zoom at 3p.m., on Tuesday, July 13th. For more programming, www.chipublib.org.
