State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez will be hosting a free community shredding event this Saturday, July 24, with state Rep. Michael Zalewski, D-Riverside. “Theft of personal data has steadily increased in recent years with scammers using both old and new techniques to take sensitive material from families and individuals,” said Hernandez. “Ensuring that any expired documents, past receipts, and other sensitive information are disposed of properly is crucial to staying protected from identity theft.” The joint Hernandez-Zalewski event will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of The Olympic Theater located at 6134 W. Cermak Rd, Cicero. The event is free and open to the public. Walk-ups and drive-ins will be accepted. Residents are asked to remove any bindings from records and will keep any containers used to bring their documents as they will not be taken. Electronics will not be accepted. Additionally, please adhere to any local, state, and CDC pandemic guidelines.
