The Chicago Park District in partnership Windy City Run announces the launch of two new Track & Field Basics Clinics at Gately Park. The 4- week, 90-minute sessions start on August 7 and run through August 28 at the newly opened, state of the art Track and Field at Gately Park, 10201 S. Cottage Grove Avenue, in the Pullman community. In addition to connecting youth with leaders in the sport, the clinics will support and develop Chicago’s aspiring track and field athletes. The Saturday morning sessions, offered by age group for 6 to 10 year olds and 11 to 14 year olds, will focus on setting the foundation for young athletes through a program designed for general conditioning and biomotor training. Each weekly session will focus on a different element of track and field, including running form and the history of the sport.  Each group will have age-appropriate activities focused on the weekly lessons. Participants will practice each event in a series of drills focused on developing technique with guidance from former collegiate and award-winning track and field athletes. In the session for 11 to 14-year-old participants, trainers will provide insight into the skills necessary to become a NCAA student-athlete.
