Rebuild Foundation, Court Theatre Announce New Series at Stoney Island Arts Bank

Rebuild Foundation, the arts, education and cultural development organization founded by artist Theaster Gates, and Court Theatre, the professional theatre of the University of Chicago, are partnering to present Mirrors & Misconceptions, a two-day activation at the Stony Island Arts Bank featuring poetry readings, gallery talks, collage activities, extended exhibition hours and more beginning December 17, 2021. On December 17th, Rebuild Foundation and Court Theatre will host a live poetry reading inspired by Black lives, misconceptions, mirrors and the moon. Featured poets will include Runako Jahi, Tarnynon Onumonu, rebecca brown, Reginald Rice, and Raych Jackson. On December 18th, the two organizations will host a gallery talk and collage activity, which will encourage participants to explore the themes of Blackness through visual art. Both events will be hosted by Smart Museum Educator and Court Theatre Teaching Artist, Nicole Bond.

All events are free to the public. In accordance with CDC guidelines and in order to keep our community safe and healthy, guests will be required to wear masks and register for all events. Guests can reserve their free attendance, at www.courttheatre.org.
