Cook County Clerk Karen A. Yarbrough and the Clerk’s Office Election Team held ballot lotteries in a public drawing March 21st to determine candidate ballot positions for countywide races in the June 28, 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election. In total, 15 drawings – 12 for the first ballot spot and three for the last spot – were held for a total of 12 primary races. The lotteries for the first position on the ballot were comprised of candidates competing for the same office who filed their nomination petitions simultaneously on March 7 at 9 a.m., the first day of candidate filing.  A separate lottery was held for candidates vying for the last spot on the ballot – these candidates filed their nomination petitions on March 14 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., the last day of candidate filing.  Anyone who filed after 9 a.m. on March 7 and before 3:59 p.m. on March 14 will be on the ballot in the order they turned in their nomination paperwork.  The ballot lottery was open to candidates, the media, and the public and it was also streamed live on the Clerk’s Facebook page. The list and status of candidates who filed with the Clerk’s Office can be found on the Clerk’s website at cookcountyclerk.com.
