The Stolen Election Myth

By Daniel Nardini

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Commentary I have already stated clearly that current U.S. President Joe Biden should be removed from office under the 25 Amendment because he is incapable of executing his duties as president. At the same time, I do not want former U.S. President Donald Trump to somehow retake the White House and be president again. I am totally shocked at how many people there are in this country who believe that Trump is “the right man for the job.” He was the wrong man for the job since day one, and proved it further when he instigated the January 6, 2021 insurrection. Now Trump is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for possibly taking classified documents.

But all of this seems to stem from the false belief that somehow the 2020 presidential election was “unfair.” It stems from the falsehood that somehow the Democratic Party was able to secretly persuade the Dominion Company to “adjust” the voting machines so that votes for Trump were “changed” in favor of Biden. This conspiracy theory is as wrong as it is dark. We have to keep in mind that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Secret Service were equally watching how the voter process went mostly for any possibility of interference from Russian intelligence services. The result was one of the most monitored elections in U.S. history (for very different reasons than any Democrat plot to steal the election). Further, Trump supporters have gone so far as to back the claim that the whole election was “stolen” from under them.

Long after the January 6th “riot” or “insurrection” (depending on your viewpoint), there are still powerful people in and outside the Republican Party who are backing the claim that the whole 2020 election was stolen. They are casting total aspersions on the whole voting process, and worse seem to favor change by mob rule or dictatorship. Either way, it would be a total gutting of the U.S. Constitution, and this cannot be allowed. I receive e-mails every now and then from pro-Trump supporters to donate money to “stop the steal” as the 2020 election has been termed. Even as I write this, there are pro-Trump supporters going all around the country promoting the myth that the 2020 election was stolen, and pro-Trump politicians who have been elected in recent days have made official requests for all of the ballots in their counties, regions or states cast from that election be recounted to try and prove fraud.

But in the past two years no fraud has been found or proven, and certainly no massive amount of voter fraud has been found to overturn the 2020 election. The pro-Trump acolytes have tried every trick in the book to overturn the election or find an opening to overturn the election. Recounts of ballots from the 2020 election in certain “contested” counties in Arizona, Texas and Wisconsin as well as statewide in Georgia have turned up nothing. The ballots recounted were alleged by pro-Trump supporters to have been all “hand-changed” to count for Biden when they were for Trump. Right wing outlets like Fox News have put out so-called videos and “eyewitness testimony” of ballots for Trump being dumped or changed in favor of Biden.

All of this has only riled too many people to believe that the Democratic Party has far, far more power than it actually does. Sadly, pro-Trump supporters and Trump himself are still going on the myth that the 2020 election was stolen and that Trump is “the rightful president.” I find it sad and sickening that Trump, who has in clearly established cases cheated people out of their money, is doing so again for a dubious cause (one tiny case that comes to mind is Trump University. I urge my readers to look that one up). I am also saddened how many millions of Americans are clearly being taken in by the myth of the 2020 election fraud that is being promoted by fraudsters every bit as bad as Donald Trump himself.
