Latino Art Beat (LAB), a Chicago based not for profit national 501c(3) arts organization, which offers an annual Hispanic Heritage themed art competition for high school juniors and seniors and a film competition for up to early college age students, has announced its winners of the 2023 Latino Art Beat Competition.  LAB is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year having awarded more than $5 million in scholarships to young aspiring artists and filmmakers over the years.   Isabela Cysne the 2023 National Latino Art Beat winner, a graduate from School without Walls, Washington, D.C., is the first national winner from D.C. in many years! Cysne’s art work “Santa da Compaixao” an oil, acrylic and pencil drawing depicting the Virgin Mary as a Latina woman in traditional Brazilian clothing from Bahia, reflects Cysne’s cultural ties and the importance of religious traditions in Latin America.  Her college of choice is the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore (MICA), founded in 1826, who in collaboration with Latino Art Beat has awarded this talented young artist a $20,000 scholarship toward her tuition fees celebrating her national win. MICA has supported multiple LAB winners over the years. An awards presentation will be held in D.C. during ‘23 National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15 – Oct 15, 2023) hosted by the D.C. Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs and District of Columbia Public Schools.  Contact Latino Art Beat for more details on its annual art and film competitions, its 2023 awards presentations and this special Miami youth art exhibit.
