After School Matters, one of Chicago’s most impactful youth-serving organizations and one of the nation’s largest provider of after-school and summer opportunities for teens, is celebrating 35 years of empowering young people across the city. Founded in the summer of 1991 at a single location providing arts programs for 260 teens, After School Matters has grown into a citywide network offering more than 1,600 paid programs annually at more than 350 locations across Chicago. Throughout its history, After School Matters has grown and evolved to meet the changing needs of Chicago teens while remaining grounded in its core mission of providing meaningful opportunities outside of school. As part of its 35th anniversary celebration, After School Matters will host a series of free public performances and events throughout the summer showcasing the talents and achievements of Chicago teens.
