The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and the nonprofit After School Matters on Saturday morning joined students and local artist James “Casper” Jankowiak for the unveiling of “Chicago Spring Breaks” at Midway International Airport. The 32-by-4-mural is situated along windows inside of Midway’s pedestrian bridge area, between the airport’s terminals and the CTA Orange Line Midway Station. “Chicago Spring Breaks” was co-created by 19 Chicago high school students and Jankowiak, and features such motifs as birds in flight, silhouettes of the Chicago skyline and logos of various Chicago professional sports teams. “Chicago Spring Breaks” is co-sponsored by DCASE, the CDA and After School Matters. The students and Jankowiak collaborated on the exhibit earlier this year between March 23 and March 26, when Chicago Public Schools were on vacation during the spring break period.
