The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture (NMPRAC) announced that it received accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) on July 17, 2026, the highest national recognition available to museums in the United States. The achievement places NMPRAC among an extraordinarily select group. Of an estimate 33,000 museums nationwide, roughly 1,100 are currently accredited by AAM. NMPRAC is now one of only 32 accredited museums in Illinois and 15 in Chicago, and becomes the fourth Latine museum in the nation to earn accreditation, joining its sister institution in Chicago, the National Museum of Mexican Art. The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture (3015 W. Division St. in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood) is the first American Alliance of Museums-accredited Puerto Rican museum and the only national museum outside of Puerto Rico dedicated to interpreting the arts and culture of the Puerto Rican people.
