
The Midway 5K Run & Walk returned for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday, Sept. 13th at Midway International Airport. Opened to competitive runners and casual walkers, the event featured a 3.1-mile race along with the Midway Miler, a 1-mile race for children ages 10 and under. Proceeds from the Midway 5K Run & Walk benefitted Special Children’s Charities, which works to expand inclusive opportunities across the Chicago area for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Entertainment included music selections from a DJ and face painting, with awards to be given after the conclusion of both races. More than 1,000 racers will take part. The event was emceed by NBC 5 Chicago anchor Stefan Holt, the event was presented by Special Children’s Charities, Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Department of Aviation, Southwest Airlines, SPAAN Tech and Midway Management Group.
