Canal Edge unveiled their vision for The Railyards™ district, a transformative mixed-use development along the Chicago River designed to convert long-underutilized rail and industrial land into one of the city’s most significant economic development opportunities in a generation. The Railyards development would combine transit-oriented residential, commercial, and retail development; a potentially viable new ballpark option for the Chicago White Sox; and potential healthcare offerings by Northwestern Medicine – creating a new model for how Chicago grows along its riverfront. Canal Edge has the riverfront property under contract. The vision for what the site could become assumes completion of that acquisition and is multi-faceted and potentially transformative for the South Side. A potential anchor for the vision for The Railyards is a new ballpark for the Chicago White Sox — a riverfront venue designed at the center of the district as a year-round gathering place, not just a game-day destination. The ballpark would be integrated into the surrounding neighborhood fabric, with programmable open space, retail, and dining designed to activate the area 365 days a year.
