Uniting Voices Chicago kicks off its historic 70th anniversary season with Canto Latino: Salsa en mi barrio, a festival bringing together youth across Uniting Voices programs and Chicago communities to celebrate Latin American heritage through song, story and dance. Join the celebration at Apollo 2000, 2875 W. Cermak Road in Chicago on October 3rd at 11am-12:30pm and 2pm-3:30pm. Performances feature Uniting Voices’ after-school ensembles and select school programs alongside a live salsa band, community dance and more. This year’s concert explores iconic salsa music, diving into its historical roots through the eyes of characters Isa and Val, who sing together in Uniting Voices’ Humboldt Park Neighborhood Choir. The biannual Canto Latino event was created by Uniting Voices conductor emeritus Danny Wallenberg, and each year students sing his arrangement of the classic En mi Viejo San Juan.
