Backpacks for Brighter Futures

While summer break is still underway, the first day of school is fast approaching. For many children, a new school year brings excitement and opportunity. But for young people impacted by poverty, violence, and trauma, returning to the classroom can also bring stress and uncertainty. To help ensure every school child begins the year prepared and confident, Kids Above All is launching its annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive by collecting backpacks and essential school supplies for the 1,500 school-aged children served through its programs. Now through August 20, community members are encouraged to donate backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, and other school essentials to help students from pre-K through 12th grade start the year with the tools they need to learn and thrive. For the complete list of items, visit www.kidsaboveall.org or head over to their Amazon Wishlist. To schedule a donation drop-off, volunteer, or learn more about the drive, contact Zulma Colon at (773) 794-7991 or zcolon@kidsaboveall.org. Donations may be dropped off at Kids Above All’s Better Life Distribution Center in Des Plaines, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Reservations are required.
