Venezuela Leaves the ICC
By Daniel Nardini
And it is very clear that President Rodriguez will make sure that those responsible for crimes against humanity in Venezuela are never brought to trial by the ICC. Since 2017, the armed forces of Venezuela and the militias have been guilty of attacking, imprisoning and killing of tens of thousands of innocent Venezuelans who tried to protest, who tried to voice their opinions in the news media and on radio, and who dared to even run for public office against the United Socialist Party of Venezuela which only allows its candidates to hold public office. The Venezuelan socialist government has run the country into the ground, and with the country’s economy having collapsed, an estimated five million Venezuelans have fled the country for other parts of the Americas. The ICC cannot even begin to address the crimes the current Venezuelan government has committed, and there seems to be no end to their crimes.
The ICC has been conducting investigations against Venezuela sine 2020, when the evidence of what the Venezuelan government has been doing became impossible to ignore. Sadly, the Organization of American States is doing very little in reality with what has been happening in Venezuela for decades, and the crimes of the government continue. The seizure of former Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro by the Y.S. armed forces has changed nothing of the nature of the regime in the country. The country remains a hellhole for its people.
