To expand diversity in Illinois’ building trades and the 1st District’s talent pipeline, State Senator Javier Loera Cervantes is encouraging local, community-based organizations to apply for the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program’s latest funding round. These comprehensive programs help participants gain apprenticeship program admission, providing graduates with a greater opportunity to start a long-term trade career. Program participants do not have to pay tuition, and they receive a stipend and other supportive barrier reduction services to assist them in entering the construction industry. Pre-apprentices receive industry-aligned certifications upon completing the program, helping to prepare and qualify them for a registered trade apprenticeship program.
