It is easy to understand why Julio Aldape place his trust in Roberto Meza at a critical juncture of Morton College’s Region IV men’s soccer championship game against the College of Du-Page November 7th in Glen Ellyn. The two were high school teammates and that connection was obvious when Meza headed in Aldape’s spot-on crossing pass at the 83rd minute. The Panthers then hung on for the 3-2 victory, giving Morton College back-to-back Region IV titles and its first appearance in the NJCAA Division I men’s soccer national tournament. Morton College (14-5-1) will be one of two Great Lakes Region representatives at the 12-team nationals, which runs November 16 to 21 at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Virginia. The Panthers’ first-round opponent is yet to be determined. “This is unbelievable,” Aldape said. “It’s an honor to be the first men’s soccer team in Morton College history to get to nationals.”
