Sinai Health System will receive $2 million from the State of Illinois Department of Human Services to improve services for persons with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) as part of the State’s new Hospital Screening and Warm Hand Off program. Sinai will receive $1 million annually over the next two years to support these services. Sinai Health System currently has 16 physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are licensed and approved to initiate Suboxone treatment for OUD patients, with another ten physicians pending. Sinai will also work with FQHC partners Access Community Health Network (ACCESS), Lawndale Christian Health Center and Esperanza Health Center, which offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) outpatient programs for those suffering from opioid addiction. Patients will not be discharged after hours into the community because the needed appropriate resources such as transportation, housing and other social needs cannot be met then. Emergency Department referrals will be supported by the transition staff of participating FQHC partners and roving behavioral health case managers at Sinai. Referrals will be made at the earliest available time for persons between 11p.m. and 7a.m.
