On Sunday morning Saint Anthony Hospital and a broad coalition of supporters launched a capital campaign for and unveiled the design for the Focal Point Community Campus, a visionary community development and new home for the Hospital. Supporters of the project, including Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia and Illinois State Senator and Chair of the Subcommittee on Capital, Martin Sandoval, called for an $80 million Illinois capital grant to build a new facility for the independent safety net hospital and create an economic boost for the Southwest Side of Chicago. “One of my top priorities in Congress is to promote investment in our working-class communities to ensure affordability and growth so that families can live, thrive, and avoid displacement through gentrification,” said Cong. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia. The Focal Point campus, at 31st Street and Kedzie Avenue in Little Village, will be the Southwest Side’s biggest project in decades and will set a new standard for community development with not only a new hospital facility but also retail space, affordable housing, community recreation areas and education space, designed to further support the health and wellness needs of the community as well as create jobs and economic opportunity. “Saint Anthony Hospital has been a pillar of the community for over a century,” said Hospital President and CEO, Guy A. Medaglia. “The new state-of-the-future hospital at Focal Point will help us advance our mission to promote health and provide quality care to patients and families in our community for the next one hundred years.”
