In a major step forward in the work to expand health equity across Illinois, Governor JB Pritzker on May 10th celebrated the Health Care and Human Services Reform Act being signed into law. The event was held at West Suburban Medical Center this morning. The legislation, which represents the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus’ healthcare pillar, takes sweeping action to address health inequities and obstacles while establishing new programs, increasing oversight and trainings, building out a Community Health Worker certification and training program and improving transparency. This Black Caucus pillar advances core administration goals to improve health care for all residents of Illinois. “Racism is bad for your health. House Bill 158 is not only about expanding access to better quality health care, though it is that,” said Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton. “This bill seeks to eliminate inequities in our state’s healthcare system.  It makes it clear that healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and should not be denied to anyone. This is a great step towards doing more for the communities and residents who need it the most as we ensure that people have access to the services and support needed to put them, and keep them on the path of good health,” said Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton.
