With school out for the summer and families searching for affordable activities, Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events has a bevy of free offerings this summer for youth, families and residents to connect with arts, culture, film and public spaces throughout the city, including several that kick off over the next few weeks. From film screenings and concerts in Millennium Park to Farmer’s Markets and Chicago Cultural Center programming, such as a Learning Lab and exhibitions, walking tours, public art experiences and neighborhood festivals, Chicago’s summer culture calendar provides accessible ways for residents to stay engaged, learn something new and experience the city. Upcoming highlights include:

• The popular Millennium Park Summer Music Series on Monday and Thursday evenings beginning June 15 (City of Chicago:: Millennium Park Summer Music Series)

• Family Matinees begin on June 25 (City of Chicago:: Chicago Cultural Center – Claudia Cassidy Theater)
